This week I share the fourth of sixteen stories from my next release Love Scenes From the Black Marketa dark anthology.

This week’s snippet is the opening 8 sentences from Minotaur Love Song, a very short tale about a most unusual relationship that forms between a girl who hates her mother and a monster in the woods.

****

She sits in a stream, cool water, no place to go.

Why do they hate me so much?  I’m only ever nice to them, but she always says she hates me.

You’re no good, Mother said, you don’t do anything right.

Fine, then I’ll leave.

It comes from the woods, black and bestial, with a horned head and dark skin like metal.

[She’s so beautiful, sitting there in the water, like a statue of flesh.  I don’t like the daylight…why does there have to be so much light?]

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

Very interesting dynamic here. He may look like a monster but he doesn’t think like one!

Thanks, Ed! I’ve always been intrigued by how monsters would really think or act. I don’t necessarily think they’d always be noble and good, but I also think to assume they’re always bloodthirsty carnivores is a bit far-fetched.

So cool to read a glimpse of his POV, Steven. I think there’s more to him than just horns and dark skin.

Interesting tone, different than your usual ‘voice’ but effective. I am really dying to have this collection of stories on the kindle!

When is the release, Steven? I really want to read this. It’s fascinating reading your voice–so different from past novels. 🙂

Oh, your voice is good in all of them. 🙂

Thanks so much, Teresa! Planned release at the moment is June 7th (gives me plenty of times to get everything edited and clean). There’s a good chance it’ll be out sooner, but with work and so many different writing projects in the works the beginning of June seemed like a safe bet. ;D
