This week I share the eighth of sixteen stories from my next release Love Scenes From the Black Marketa dark anthology.

This week’s excerpt is from The Ship, a short survival tale set in the world of Blood Skies in which a young Warden of Black Scar finds himself trapped in the mountain wilderness after the Dreadnaught prison transport he serves on crashes.

Will you?

Drake swam in a white sea.  Everything was distant: the exploding wood, the burning.  Screams and falling echoed through his mind.

He saw her face, heard her voice.  She faded in from the white void, pale and perfect, golden hair and sapphire eyes.

Will you?

His eyes fluttered open.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

To wake from the dream or not to wake… I can see him wanting it both ways. 🙂 I’m really enjoying the snippets from this collection. 🙂 You have such a sensitive side we don’t often get to see.

Intriguing and very evocative – the contrast between the dream and his reality.

It’s one of my common themes, it seems.

As enticing as the dream is, I get a sense he urgently needs to wake up and deal with reality!

Absolutely. And his reality is about to really suck.

This really evokes that feeling you have between dreaming and waking. I suspect his awakening will be a rude one.

So nicely done! Very absorbing and full of emotion, delicately offered to readers yet we can feel that something is coming and it probably won’t be good.

It feels like that beautiful twilight between waking and sleep where your subconscious is trying to tell you something. Great snippet!

Wow, what a trippy scene. So many visuals, and they contrasted in such a jarring way, which is likely how he feels right now. Loved this so much!
