Sorry for last week’s absence…life has been particularly crazy pants as of late!

Dead Planet is out in just a couple of weeks (Feb 23rd, to be exact).  We’re going to make a narrative leap (which happens often in the novel), and take you back to the wastelands of the dead planet Resaad, where Rike finds himself after a major battle.  While trying to make his way back to civilization he stumbles upon a ghost town (literally), where he beholds the spirit of someone important to him that he lost long ago.  This apparition tells him what he needs to do next in order to carry out his mission, and as he takes his leave he comes to understand what’s happening…

Rike turned to leave and saw her again.  She watched him inquisitively, and as he moved towards her a sense of purpose filled him.  Direction.  He knew at once where he was, and where he had to go.  He saw the people of that old village again, gathered just for a moment, watching him.  Not ghosts but memories, transmissions sent by some psychic missive, a dormant telepathic monument.  That entire village was a transmitter: a beacon from the past, a signal from a lost age.  It had dug into his mind when he’d arrived, found an avatar through which it could speak, someone important to him.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

I love the mix of science and ‘magic’. Even the most unreal made perfectly reasonable. Congratulations Steven. This book is definitely a job well done!

Oh, chilling, Steven! That reminds me of the story circulating this week about the cab drivers in Japan picking up ghosts of the victims of the tsunami. The dead reaching out. Love it!
