To celebrate this week’s release of PATH OF BONES (Book 2 in the epic fantasy Skullborn Trilogy), I thought I’d present something no one has seen yet: the opening lines to the conclusion of the trilogy, THE BLACK TOWER, which will be released later this year.  Check it out!

(For those of you reading PATH OF BONES, you may or may not recognize this character, if only by name…)

****

The angel in the smoke.

He stood there in a charcoal fog, his jagged iron wings wrapped tight around his scarred and mangled flesh.  Beams of pale grey light pierced the gloom through hairline cracks in the black stone walls and illuminated a floor covered with dust and bones.

Calladar stood still in the frozen chamber, just as he had for years.  Dark ice crystals laced his wings and face, and his eyes were locked open, mummified in the cold dry air.  He stared out at the shadows of the massive room, a personal oubliette filled with the remains of those he’d slaughtered.

It had been three decades since he’d lost her.  He wouldn’t move until she returned: his Blood Queen, his love.

Thanks for dropping by, and have a great weekend!
