Skipping ahead a bit from last week, Dane eventually meets Vellexa’s employer, a shadowy crime lord called the Iron Count.  Rather than meet Dane face-to-face, the Count has Dane taken to a cold dark room with a tall iron-bound mirror, through which Dane hears the enigmatic crime lord speaking to him…

“Where are you?” Dane asked.

“Beyond your reach,” the Count replied.  The face of the mirror shifted, and Dane’s reflection faded.

The surface transformed into a sort of window.  Dane saw a room on the other side of the mirror, a rounded chamber filled with jagged implements, oddly curved furniture and black smoke.  The vague silhouette of an enormous male figure wearing field plate stood back-lit by a haze of pale blue light.  The man’s armor had a high collar but no helmet, and both of the Count’s arms were much larger than they should have been.  Dane couldn’t make out the man’s face, and two dots of crimson light floated where the man’s eyes should have been.

Thanks for dropping by, and have a great weekend!

The beginning gives me chills. I would love to see this made into a movie. I hope Guillermo del Toro will be available when it does. 🙂

Creepy. Things in mirrors that shouldn’t be there are always scary.

I agree. That notion has given me chills since I was a kid.

Not sure I’d want to be in the same room with him based on that description. The Iron Count sounds like a guy you don’t want to mess with.

Oh, he isn’t. What’s worse, he has something of a personal grudge against Dane, and Dane doesn’t even know it…

That’s a very creepy and vivid description. It looks like Dane is in a pretty bad situation.
